Why we built Freelancy

Every freelancer starts the same way. One spreadsheet for invoices. Another for clients. A third for expenses, when you remember to update it. A folder of contracts buried in your email, and a note on your phone for who still owes you money.

It works, until it doesn’t.

The problem isn’t that spreadsheets are bad. They’re great. The problem is that a freelance business isn’t one list. It’s clients, projects, time, invoices, and expenses, and the relationships between all of them. The moment you want a simple answer, like “how much has this client actually paid me this year, after fees,” you’re doing archaeology across four files that don’t agree with each other.

We built Freelancy because we were tired of that dig.

One place, not ten tabs

Freelancy keeps the whole picture together. Add a client, hang projects off them, track time and expenses against the right project, turn those into an invoice, then record the payment. Nothing gets retyped. Nothing lives in a file you have to remember to open. When you want to know where you stand, it’s one screen, not an afternoon.

A few choices we made on purpose:

  • One source of truth. Clients, projects, time, invoices, and expenses share the same data, so the numbers always agree.
  • Your real take-home. Reports show what you actually earned and what you actually owe, not a hopeful estimate.
  • It stays out of the way. If you can use a spreadsheet, you can use this. No setup weekend, no manual.
  • Your data is yours. Everything exports, anytime. No lock-in.

Early, and on purpose

Freelancy is designed and maintained by Hyphen Solution. It’s early, and we’re letting people in gradually so we can keep it sharp.

If running your business from spreadsheets has started to cost you more than it saves, we’d love to have you try it. Join the waitlist at freelancy.hyphen-solution.com.
